How does searching work?

Simple search

  1. Enter a search term.
    For a quick overview of the documents, for which you have read permissions, you can enter an asterisk * instead of a search term.

  2. Optionally, you can select a search profile to the left of the search field to limit the search to specific areas. More information: Using search profiles

Search via voice input

If voice input is enabled in your system, you can also speak the term.

  1. Click on the microphone.

  2. Speak the search term.

  3. The search is started automatically after a short pause.

Support when entering the search term

  • Proposals are displayed. This can also be translations and synonyms if configured.

  • Search recommendations are displayed (optional)

  • Last searches are displayed (optional).

  • Documents are proposed that match the currently entered search term.

  • After an unsuccessful search, for example because of a typo, a correction is suggested.

Accepting a suggested search term

  1. Click on the suggestion that you want to use, or navigate to the suggestion using the arrow keys, and press the Enter key.

  2. Search is performed for the suggested search term.

Displaying the suggested document

  • To show the preview, click on Preview.

  • To open the document, click on it.

Accepting a suggested correction

  1. After an unsuccessful search, a correction is suggested.

  2. Click on the correction proposal.

  3. Hits for the proposed search term are displayed.

Searching with a predefined filter

If your system is configured accordingly, filters may be preset. The filters are automatically used for the search. However, you can also delete the filters before you perform the search or after you have performed the search.

Searching with field names

If your system is configured accordingly, you can use field names for searching. You can use this function, for example, to search specifically for folders. More information: Syntax for searching.

  1. Enter the field name together with the desired value. More information about field names: Syntax for searching.

  2. You can additionally enter the search term.

_str.application:directory

All folders for which you are authorized.

_str.application:directory launcher

All folders whose names contain the term launcher.

Interactive feature tour

The iFinder feature tour takes you through the main functions: search bar, result list, filters, previews and help. To start the tour, do the following:

  1. Open die Help menu and select Feature-Tour.

  2. In the start dialog, click Start the software tour.

  3. The following dialogs take you through the different functions.

Note

The feature tour is only available if it has been configured by the administrator. If you do not see the Feature-Tour entry in your help menu, contact your administrator.
