Displaying a hit document

For documents that match your search query, the hit list shows a thumbnail, text excerpt, and other metadata. You can open documents in the preview directly in iFinder, or download and view them in their original format.

Overview

In the hit list, you can do the following:

  • Download and open in native application: Click the title or file path. Alternatively, you can choose Open from the Action menu. Depending on the browser and your personal settings, the document is downloaded or opened in its original format. In the case of e-mail attachments, the original e-mail is opened, from which access to the attachment is also possible. Downloaded documents can be opened with your native application (e.g. PDFs with Adobe Reader).

  • Open document preview: Click the thumbnail on the left to preview the document. The preview is displayed in a new window. For ZIP files, an overview of the included files is displayed. For email attachments, the parent email is displayed. For multi-page documents (e.g. PDFs), the first hit page is displayed with the search term highlighted. See also the Document preview section below.

If a file type icon is displayed instead of the image, the preview is not available or not yet available.

  • Show document details: To view more details (metadata) of the document, select Details from the Action menu (). The details are displayed in a new window.

  • Forward document: In the Action menu (), select the Forward. An email is created from your email account that links to the original document.

  • Add to Favorites: In the Action menu (), select Add to Favorites. You can now find the document in the My Favorite Documents widget.

  • Related documents: In the Action menu (), select the Similar Documents. A search for similar documents is performed in a new tab.

Document preview

In the document preview, you can browse from hit page to hit page, scroll through the document, change the display size, and rotate the document. Open the document preview by clicking the thumbnail of the document in the hit list. The preview displays the first hit page with the search term highlighted:
